PACIA 2011 “Convergence in Performing & Creative Arts”

 

 

The School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia is organizing an international conference on Creative Industries, 2^nd PACIA 2011 (Performing Arts as Creative Industries in Asia) in conjunction with the Arts Festival at the main campus, in Penang island, Malaysia. The main focus of the conference is to examine the changing roles and status of Performing and Creative Arts, its importance and also its relevance to the globalised society. The creative industries refer to a range of economic activities which are concerned with the generation of knowledge and new practices. This encompasses creative activities such as fashion, architecture, art, crafts, design, performing arts,  film, music, advertising, publishing, R&D, software, TV and radio, as well as video games.

 

Various issues in the field of Performing & Creative Arts (Music, Dance, Theatre, New Media, Product Design, Interior Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Communications, Fashion, Heritage, Media Management, Education, as well as Preservation and Conservation) would be discussed. Presentations from industry players are also welcomed. There will be a slot for post graduate participation, New Scholars Session on the second day of the conference.

 

 

The seven (7) panel discussions include:

 

1. Tradition and Identity

2. Policies and Supports for the Performing & Creative Arts

3. Research & Education In Performing & Creative Arts

4. New Works in Performing & Creative Arts

5. Managing and Curating Performing & Creative Arts

6. Analysis and Criticism in Performing & Creative Arts

7. Media & Design In Performing & Creative Arts

 

Please submit an abstract of not more than 300 words and a short biography by 15th of September 2010 to the Secretariat:  zairani@notes.usm.my. Proposals are reviewed within three weeks of submission. For accepted abstracts, full papers must be submitted by 15th of January 2011.
