The 8th Asia-Pacific Bureau Theatre Schools Festival and Directors’ Conference 2015

Directors’ Meeting Sessions 1 and 2

 

Dates:

Sunday, 7 June and Wednesday, 10 June 2015

Venue:

LASALLE College of the Arts

Resolutions:

 

Resolution 1:  

The Directors’ Meeting voted to accept two new member schools into the APB Theatre Schools network:

-       the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh

-       the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Edith Cowan University, Australia.

 

Resolution 2:

The Directors’ Meeting voted that decisions of the APB Theatre Schools network will be undertaken through the Directors’ Meetings:

a)    consisting of one representative per member school

b)    with all APB decisions made through the Directors’ Meetings in a democratic process of one vote per member school

c)    and meetings to be held regularly (normally one per year).

The APB Secretariat would continue to reside at the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), with Prof. Gong serving as the Director of the Secretariat Office.

 

 

Actions from Meetings:

 

From Meeting 1:

·         An updated list of all current member schools’ representatives and contact details will be sent by LASALLE to Ms Xu at Shanghai Theatre Academy for future communications on all APB-related matters. 

·         Members to maintain updates with Ms Xu at STA

·         Members to consider inviting a representative from Cambodia to future APB events through Ms Pen Hun, Deputy Director, Department of Performing Arts, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Cambodia.

 

From Meeting 2:

·         Student representation to be included in planning and delivery of future APB Theatre Schools Festivals.

·         Consideration of support for translation for member school representatives who do not speak English at future APB Theatre Schools Festivals.

·         APB to continue using the ITI and UNESCO’s name and logos. In the meantime, Prof. Gong, in his capacity as APB Secretariat, to write to the ITI Executive Council to request clarification of APB’s status in writing.

·         Prof. Kendre, Director of the National School of Drama (NSD) in India, to communicate with APB members as to whether NSD is able to host an APB Theatre Schools Festival some time in 2016.

 

 

Working Groups:

 

Three Working Groups were established to liaise with members and provide written report or proposals prior to the next APB Theatre Schools’ Directors’ Meeting:

·         Working Group 1:

Vision and Mission of APB, articulating future directions for next 5 years

(members - Prof. Fernandez, Prof. Miller, Mr. Low, Mr. Lin)

 

·         Working Group 2:

Protocols for the Work of APB

(members Prof. Gong, Mr. Duong, Dr. Abad, Ms. Xu, Mr. Mellor)

 

·         Working Group 3:

Criteria for APB membership

(members Prof. Sherlock, Dr. Morris)

 

 

Agenda Items Carried Forward

 

Agenda items to carry forward to the next Directors’ Meeting:

·         Name change - whether a name change is needed, and if so what proposals are there for a new name, which removes the word ‘bureau’.

·         Reports from the three Working Groups

·         Agenda item 8 – benefits of APB membership & new developments, including:

- website, future collaborations, publications

·         Agenda item 9 – any other business - support for Nepal.
