Opening of UNESCO Chair ITI Asian-Pacific Expo of Theatre Schools 06/06/2009

At 5:30 this afternoon, the opening ceremony of UNESCO Chair ITI Asian-Pacific Expo of Theatre Schools & Fifth Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival was held at Shanghai Theatre Academy. Yu Ping, Secretary for Education and Science of Ministry of Culture PRC, Chen Dong, Vice Minister of Publicity Department of Shanghai Municipal Committee, Li Junxiu, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Andre Perinetti,the representative of UNESCO Chair ITI, Ba Tu, Vice President of China’s National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, Zhang Renliang, Administrative Chief of Jing’an District, Huang Senlin, Vice Chairman of CPPCC Jing’an District Committee, Fang Shizhong, Deputy Administrative Chief of Jing’an District, Tang Jingkai, Office Director of Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation, heads of Shanghai Theatre Academy, Lou Wei, Han Sheng, and Liu Zhigang were present at the opening ceremony. Sun Huizhu, Director of UNESCO Chair ITI Asian-Pacific Bureau and Vice President of STA presided over the opening ceremony.

This expo will last from June 6 to 14. Major events include theatre festival, themed workshops, 2009 Master Class of International Directors, UNESCO Chair ITI Asian-Pacific Regional Conference of Theatre School Directors. Academic symposium will be held on June 13 and 14. Representatives from 16 theatre schools of 13 countries and regions in the Asian-Pacific region and officials from UNESCO Chair ITI Ministry of Cultural Education will present at the grand expo.
Through the expo, the present representatives will explore how to promote theatre traditions of each countries as well as enhance international communication on arts from multi-cultrual respect. Taking the opportunity of this expo, theatre schools in the Asian-Pacific region will combine their advantages to promote communication on theatre culture and education and the further development of theatre arts in the Asian-Pacific region.

Li Junxiu, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission delivered a speech at the opneing ceremony.

Han Sheng, Secretary General of board of directors of UNESCO Chair ITI Asian-Pacific Bureau and Vice President (in charge) of STA delivered a speech at the opneing ceremony.
