The performance of "King Oedipus" waving his three-meter long sleeves

"King Oedipus"co-produced by Shanghai Theatre Academy and Zhejiang Peking Opera Troupe will be performed at the UNESCO Chair ITI Asian-Pacific Expo of Theatre Schools & Fifth Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival tonight.

"King Oedipus" was written by Sun Huizhu, Vice President of STA and directed by Prof. Lu Ang and Weng Guosheng of STA. As an experimental Peking opera production, "King Oedipus" emphasizes the unique style of expression in acting, directing, singing and stage design. The combination of the singing, action, speaking, fighting and dancing in Peking opera is shown on the stage. In the final scene of King Oedipus piercing his eyes, Weng Guosheng demonstrates the tragic scene by waving the three-meter long sleeves and using different kinds of actions in Peking opera.

"King Oedipus" will also be brought to the U.S. and Mexico to attend the North American International Drama School Experimental Theatre Festival this year.
