Expert Forum by Jin Shijie 08/06/2009

At 15:30 on June 8, the first lecture of expert forum in the fifth experimental theatre festival was held in Room 209 of the Red Building. The lecturer is Mr. Jin Shijie, who was called “the pioneer and representative of modern theatre in Taiwan” by famous director Lai Shengchuan. Many people who study and love theatre came to the lecture.

Mr. Jin has experienced a lot in his life. Graduated from agricultural university, he always knew what he was interested in most. He loved drama and treated it as a life-long interest he would pursue. As Mr. Jin says, “I like thinking. When I was young, I made up stories to fulfill my wishes. Later I found that thinking is what a playwright does. When I fed pigs after graduation, I continued with my thinking. That was an important phase before I took up my present career.” Mr. Jin Shijie is just a nice man with positive and active thoughts.

Mr. Jin Shijie thinks that the playwright, director and actor form a unity when it comes to a production of theatre or film. When introducing Mr. Jin, Mr. Sun Huizhu of STA said, “Mr. Jin is not an ordinary actor. He comes up with proper and pretty lines when creating a character.” Mr. Jin said, “Some people ask me if I am a director, a playwright or an actor. It is hard to say. To me, they are a unity in creating a production. The production instead of the individual should achieve success.”

The audience is attracted by Mr. Jin during the two-hour lecture. During the interaction time, many people expressed their respect for Mr. Jin before bringing out questions.
