APB Theatre Festival holds gathering of participating schools

13 May 2014

Co-organized by the Shanghai Theatre Academy and National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, the 7th Theatre School Directors’ Conference & Theatre Festival of the UNESCO-ITI Asia Pacific Bureau (APB) opened on 10 May 2014 at the Duanjun Theatre of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, with more than 20 participating schools from different countries and regions including China, Korea, Australia and India etc. During the first two days of the Theatre Festival, there were performances from six countries and regions, with which there were also the relevant audience interactive activities and theatre workshops running in parallel.

Considering that the performance schedule is very tight for all participating schools and as the result there had been little chance for them to interact and exchange with each other, the Shanghai Theatre Academy made the special arrangement for the participating schools to get-together on the afternoon of 12 May at the Rendezvous Merry Hotel. Prof Gong Baorong, Vice President of Shanghai Theatre Academy, gave a short speech in which he hoped that the participating schools would get to know each other, learn from each other, exchange fully and make friends in the happy and relaxing environment and atmosphere of this gathering. After that, representatives of each school introduced their own team and shared the experience about the performance, in either in English or their native language. A group of students from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts expressed their joyful feelings about participating in this Theatre Festival in four languages and dialects, i.e. English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese. This event has enhanced the friendship and deepened the understanding among the participating schools.
