The Department of Theatre Arts is committed to fostering professionalism, excellence and innovation through teaching, production and research. They train professionals for the theatre in an environment full of vitality. Our courses embrace the treasures of both Eastern and Western theatre, both traditional and modern—balancing critical thinking with practical skills, and theory with technique. As a result, our students demonstrate technical mastery, academic command, creativity, cultural sensitivity, passion and idealism. From this combination, our students have been realizing our goal to bring a new era to the theatre of Taiwan, creating a contemporary Taiwanese theatre culture that is opening to the wider international audience.

Since our founding in 1982, on the basis of this production core, the Department of Theatre Arts has graduated over 600 BFA students, and over 100 MA students. Our graduates continue to utilize our theatrical heritage to expand our future, with fulfilling careers in theatre, film, television and education.
