Korea National University of Arts (KNUA) was established by law in 1993. In the history of arts education in Korea, and also in Asia, KNUA occupies a special place. It consists of six independent but correlative schools: the School of Music, the School of Drama, the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, the School of Dance, the School of Visual Arts, and the School of Korean Traditional Arts.
The School of Drama consists of five departments: Acting, Directing, Playwriting, Stage Design, and Theatre Studies, and the curriculums of all departments are based on two principles. First of all, the curriculums put emphasis on developing artistic senses to students' own languages, gestures and styles. Second, all subjects of the curriculums are designed to provide intensive trainings in theatrical skills required of professional artists.
