Structure and membership of APB
Each Directors’ Conference should be structured with a meeting agenda and minutes for every discussion.
Before next Directors’ Conference a suggestion should be prepared for formalizing criteria for membership in APB.
Andrew Lewis Smith Associate Director, WA Screen Academy, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Australia and Mohammad Israfil Professor, Department of Theatre, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh gave short introductions of their schools. They will also send out written information about their schools to the APB member schools as a part of them applying for APB membership.
APB should look to support new members from countries, such as Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. Colleges and universities from these countries may not be able to afford membership. APB member schools could share the cost of their membership and help them participate in the APB activities.
During next Directors’ Conference APB members should prepare to discuss the membership of other nations in the region e.g. Cal Arts, USA.
Hosting future APB Directors’ Conferences
APB member schools need to send in proposals to the APB Administration, Xu Jiali, before July 15 2014.
The original decision was that the Directors’ conference should be held every year and students’ activities such as a Theatre Festivals, Master Classes, Workshops, Academic Exchanges should be offered ever second year. The present situation is that we do both every year. But the students’ activities must remain according to the ability of each host. It is optional to host a bigger event or a smaller or just the Directors’ Conference, which is the most important.
Each member school should send in proposals for future Students’ Activities.
Each member school should send information about up coming festivals and events in their respective areas.
Possible proposals
Amanda Morris Dean (Performing Arts) Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore: In 2015 Singapore turns 50 years old. The Singapore Drama Education Association (SDEA) will be hosting a conference in June 2015. Perhaps we could host a Directors’ meeting in connection to that.
Chien Lee Zen Dean, School of Theatre Arts, Taipei University of the Arts, Chinese Taipei: We are hosting a festival in Taipei in September 2017. Perhaps we could host the 2017 Directors’ Conference in connection to that.
Other issues
Farindokht Zahedi Professor, School of Drama and Music, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Fine Arts, School of Drama & Music, Iran, offers to share her curriculum (four years) of a discipline that promotes theatre for children.
