The Master Class by Prof. Fan Yisong 09/06/2009

On June 9, the master class by Prof. Fan Yisong was held at the east rehearsal hall in the Red Building. As a major part of this theatre expo, master classes aim to enhance the communication between drama schools on theatre arts through the form besides staged performance. Actors and actresses from New Zealand, Hong Kong and other countries/regions attended the class.

Prof. Fan Yisong introduced the basic facts of traditional Chinese opera especially Peking opera and then invited the students to create short performance of Chinese opera impromptu. His teaching in English made it easier for the students to learn the essence of traditional Chinese culture. One Indian actor praised Chinese opera as full of fascination.

Prof. Fan Yisong has devoted himself to the cross-cultural exchange of theatre arts these years. The famous Off Broadway drama “Pied-a-terre” translated and directed by Prof. Fan was put on the stage of Shanghai Grand Theatre in May. The drama highly praised by the media and audience well embodied Prof. Fan＇s solid capacity of language and directing.
