“Mu Lan” won the 2nd place in oversea student talent show 17/04/2010

Yesterday afternoon, “China dream, Expo love”, a talent show for oversea students in Shanghai co-hosted by Shanghai Education Committee and Shanghai Literary Federation, concluded in STA theatre. “Mu Lan”, an original play by STA, won the 2^nd prize.

 

The “Mu Lan” crew includes: Director: STA postgraduate Luo Xianggui (Korea), Dance Director: Zhang Shouhui (Korea) and Peter (Italy), Music Compose & Play: Shahhin (Iran), Actor: Piao Shanyou (Korea), 高原宁浩 (Japan), and Li Zhenhao (US).After 3 moths busy rehearsing the team succeeded to adapt the original Chinese story of Mu Lan disguising herself as a man to join the army to spare her elderly father of military service with the expression style of US hip-hop. This splendid blend of contemporary music, Chinese classical dance, hip-hop, poem reading and Beijing Opera.produced a 15 minutes long unprecedented version of “Mu Lan”.

 

“Mu Lan” was awarded the prize for its originality in script writing, music & dance composing and costume design, which indicates not only their understanding of Chinese culture and language but also their thoughts of theatre play and performing art.
