Prof．Hu Kaiqi from City University of New York Delivering a Lecture in STA 25/12/2008

  
On the afternoon of December 23，Prof．Hu Kaiqi from City University of New York was invited to deliver a lecture in Shanghai Theatre Academy on the creation and performance of contemporary serious theatre of Britain and America．Prof．Zhang Shengquan，Director Propaganda Department of STA，Prof．Lu＇ang，Director of Directing Department and Sui Mujiao，General Secretary of Directing Department attended the lecture．

Prof．Hu Kaiqi holds position in New York Municipal Education Commission and City University of New York．As a famous theatre translator，he conducts the translation and research of contemporary theatre in Britain and America．He is now the counselor of British and American theatre in National Theatre Company of China．The plays he translated such as Copenhagen and Suspicion were produced and performed by National Theatre Company of China；Proof was co－produced by Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre and Hong Kong Repertory Theatre；4．48 Psychosis was produced and performed by Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre．All of these plays won wide acclaims．

During the two－hour lecture，Prof. Hu Kaiqi made an introduction to the contemporary American serious theatre and about twenty excellent American dramatists such as Arthur Miller，Sam Shepard and Robert Wilson．He inspired the listeners to compare theatre creation in China and America and to reflect on the future efforts of theatre practitioners．

Prof．Lu＇ang，Director of Directing Department said STA would keep long－term cooperation with Prof．Hu Kaiqi and hoped Prof．Hu Kaiqi would translate and introduce more excellent British and American contemporary plays．
