On March 26,Han Sheng,Vice President (in charge) of STA signed the agreement with Zhu Zongqing,President of Taipei University of the Arts and decided the cooperation between two schools would be implemented in four dimensions - cooperation in theatrical education,drama creation and performance, communication among the faculty and students as well as plan of exchange students. Related sections of two schools will be authorized to carry out the plan mentioned above.
During their stay in Taiwan,the delegation of university presidents visited Taipei University of Arts and attended the signing ceremony between our academy and Taipei University of Arts. Wang Qi,leader of the group and Vice Director of Shanghai Educational Committee and Zhao Yajun,Vice Director of Taiwan Affairs Office of Shanghai attended the ceremony with other eight university presidents.
Han Sheng,Vice President of STA stated in the opening speech,“Practically speaking,the academic communication between two schools started from the 1980s. We have witnessed successful cooperation in performance,stage design and other academic research fields for several years. Many teachers of the two schools are already familiar with each other. There are many similarities between the two schools,such as we are both comprehensive arts universities. Our commitment of cooperation will be confirmed in the form of files. It will promote the deep, organized and sustainable communication and cooperation. The ultimate beneficiaries are students of our two schools. If we choose some exchange students,teachers or scholars to pay a visit,it will surly broaden our educational horizon and push forward our arts development.”
President Zhu Zongqing emphasized in his speech,“Shanghai Theater Academy is a first-class arts academic college. Our cooperation can be put as ‘well-matched’. Our school sets as its aim to build an internationally first-class arts university. We usually only choose to carry out cooperation with fist-class arts school. In mainland,besides Shanghai Theater Academy,we only set up cooperative relationships with Central Academy of Fine Arts and Central Conservatory of Music. We have established close relationships with 20 top international arts schools. Next month I am leaving for Japan and sign the agreement with Tokyo University of the Arts.”
Taipei University of Arts was founded in 1982. It’s the first tertiary arts educational institution in Taiwan. Currently there are 2000 students studying there. The teaching departments it possesses are colleges of music,fine arts, drama,dance,cultural resources and general knowledge committee. The research centers established are of traditional arts research,arts and science,electronic computer,performing arts,arts resources,further education and international communication. In times of founding the school,there existed a flow of cultural power and some arts groups emerged. The trend led the novel arts and cultural concepts and created a deep influence on the mass. Therefore,Taipei University of Arts was set up. Her concept of teaching is “taking into account both traditional and modern as well as international and local aspect.” She has the mission in mind to propel the cultural development and become an internationally first-class arts university.
