Youth Kunqu Opera Group of STA Affiliated Chinese Opera School Perform at Macao 12-10-2009
At the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of P.R. China, and the tenth anniversary of Macao’s return to China, the Youth Kunqu Opera Group composed by part of the students majoring Kunqu Opera at STA Affiliated Chinese Opera School performed a special show named “Appreciating the Opera as Cultural Quintessence” in Macao at the invitation of the Ministry of Education of Macao.
The show was aimed to deepen the understanding and knowledge of high school and university students of Macao about the traditional Chinese culture, and improve their capacity of appreciating the traditional opera. The school organized a carefully selected performing group of over sixty members to perform the classics of Kunqu Opera.
As part of the Plan of Art Education Aimed at High School Students in Macao, the performance was quite different, with Tian Enrong, Vice President of the school, interpreting the opera in terms of the origin, three major features, categories of characters, and performing techniques. In order to make it more interesting, the organizers added many interactive sections, during which some of the audience learned the basic performing techniques under the guide of professional performers on the stage.
When the first show was given on the afternoon of Sept. 28th, the Macao Culture Center was filled with audience. The students were fascinated by the wonderful artistic charms of Kunqu Opera.
The Youth Kunqu Opera was scheduled to put on six shows in Macao from Sept. 25th to Oct. 1st, including five shows especially opened to students of grade three in senior high schools and one to public.
