Lecture by Renown Swiss Pro. Jürg. Neuenschwander from Berne University10-12-2009
On Dec. 8th,Swiss Professor Jürg. Neuenschwander from Berne University gave a lecture, European Perspective of Documentary Films, in Red Building at STA.
During the lecture, Prof. Neuenschwander played several documentary directed by himself, e.g. Capitol, Encounter on the milky way, etc., and analyzed actual examples of European main stream documentary works, experience, and new technologies.
Prof. Neuenschwander pointed out that to him, the focus is on the similarity, not differences, of humanity, and how to manifest the likeness of human beings through the film. Documentary makers should have strong ethical conscience, truthfully record and present the world, and do not make clichés to please the market and the audience.
Prof. Neuenschwander has multiple roles, as professor of Design and Art Department, owner of InerTV Company, Independent film director and producer, member of Swiss Film Association and has won Best Documentary Award of Cristallo di Locarno Imprisonment, Berne Film Award for Best Documentary Photography Award, Los Angeles International Documentary Award and Pare Lorentz Nomination. The experience of residing in Switzerland and working abroad made him very experienced in cross- cultural work and cultural dissemination. He has made films and documentary in Bangladesh, Nepal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Bolivia, China, Europe and the United States and. At the end, Professor Fang on behalf of the school presented gifts to Prof. Neuenschwander thanking him for bringing new methods, techniques and ideas to the students as well as teaching them the attitude that film makers should uphold.
The seminar was hosted by Prof. Fang Fang, head of Broadcasting/TV Programming and Directing Department, and Lei Lin as the translator of International Channel of Shanghai TV Station.
This seminar is assisted by the State Administration of Foreign Expert Affaires in terms of introducing foreign technologies and human resource management project. The seminar was jointly hosted by HR Department and College of Television Arts.
