Opening ceremony of “Thai movie festival & international conference 2010” held today 17/04/2010

9am April 17th, opening ceremony of “Thai movie festival & international conference” took place in STA with participants including: Mr. Piroon Laismit, Minister of Royal Thai Consulate-General Shanghai, Dean of Film & Photography faculty, Broadcasting Art Dept., Chulalongkorn University, Shi Chuan, Vice President of Shanghai Film Maker Committee., and STA  Party Secretary Lou Wei, President Han Sheng, Vice President Huang Changyong. The ceremony was presented by Prof. Zhang Zhongnian.
 
On the ceremony, President Han Sheng, Minister Piroon Laismit, Prof. Shi Chuan, and Prof. Laxan gave speeches expressing their appreciation and best wishes for Thai movie festival & international conference 2010 and Sino-Thai culture exchange.
 
Attendees of this meeting include more than 40 experts from 20 universities from Thailand, Singapore, Beijing, Hangzhou, Inner Mongolia, Chongqing, and Shanghai, who will join the discussion of Thai movie and Thai movie festival in the next two days.
 
Thai film industry has a history of more than one century with unique developing trajectory. Especially since 1997, Thai film industry has seen its renaissance with the emergence of numerous internationally influential and award-winning movies.
 
As a modern art form and the mass medium, the prosperity of Thai movie is underpinned by the foundation of modern Thai society: multi-ethnic culture, strong Buddhist belief and harmonized constitutional monarchy. The aesthetics of Thai movie blends the merits of both Asian and Western culture to be presented in a unique movie language, which brings true surprise and expectations to 21 century film industry.
 
This conference is co-organized by Art Research Academy, STA and Film & Photography faculty, Broadcasting Art Dept., Chulalongkorn University, with full support from Royal Thai Consulate-General Shanghai. Shanghai Qu Yang Film Library also contributes to the film festival.
