April 27th, Doctor Zeng Yongyi, Emeritus Professor of Taiwan University, a renowned scholar on traditional opera, linguistics and folklore, gave a lecture at Zi Teng building, STA. The lecture was hosted by Dean of Theatre Script Faculty, Prof. Lu Jun. Prof. Ye Changhai, head of STA Theatre & Opera Study Center also attended the lecture.
The topic of this lecture is “From language to accent”. Prof. Zeng considers accent to be the rhythm of language which adds melody to it. He illustrated his idea in 7 aspects: the coordinates of the rhyme, tone, the length of the rhyme, phrasing, anaphoric word, sentence structure and power of imagination, finalized the discussion with his unique findings on accent and its carrier based on the example of Kun Shan accent. During the lecture he cited some well kown peoms and analyzed the concept of meaning and form with a structured sentence, helped the students understand the connotation of between artificial temperament and natural temperament.
