Shanghai Summer School 2011: Traditional Chinese Opera Program has run successfully during July 4th-29th of 2011, with more than 20 students from 10 countries.
Objectives
• Offer Summer Theatre Programs to International Students
• Explore poetic, stylized acting through aesthetics of Chinese opera
Course Content
• Chinese Opera, Chinese Culture and language
• Chinese Opera as a major part, including stage acting and movement, water sleeves, stage combat and selected scene works
• Complemented with Chinese culture and language
• Watching performance such as Miss Julie, and performances of Mr. Yu Zhenfei 109 birth anniversary
• Field trips in Shanghai
Teaching faculties
• Based on the success of Chinese Opera training program offered to NYU, School of Tisch, STA has developed a comprehensive curriculum which taught in English
• Chinese culture is taught by Prof. William Sun, who compares eastern theatres to the west
• Chinese Opera is taught by young lecturers who are also experienced performers. e.g. Jiali Xu who worked in Shanghai Beijing Opera Company also studied in UK and is very experienced in teaching international students Chinese Opera
Students
• 20 students from USA, UK, Japan, Iran, Bulgaria, Span, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand respectively
